Meet Dr. Yaseen Waqar

Background & Education

Dr. Yaseen Waqar is a residency-trained Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist licensed in Texas.

A native Texan from Waco, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO), where he was an active member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.

Following graduation, Dr. Waqar completed a Residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (2020–2021). This advanced training focused on managing complex conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye care, macular degeneration, and other ocular pathologies.

Professional Role & Experience

Dr. Waqar joined Texas State Optical Kyle in 2021 as the lead clinician following his residency, bringing specialized expertise to the practice — which was originally established in 2009 and acquired in 2015. He has served as the primary Therapeutic Optometrist since then, emphasizing comprehensive medical eye care, early detection with advanced diagnostics, and clear, patient-centered communication.

He has a special interest in precision optics and partners with Zeiss to provide high-definition spectacle lenses. He also offers advanced treatments including dry eye therapy and scleral lens fittings for complex corneal conditions. Patients frequently praise his thorough examinations, attentiveness — especially with children and families — clear explanations, and professional, kind demeanor.

Community Involvement

Dr. Waqar is committed to eye health education in the local community. In 2025, he was invited to lecture on children's vision, school-related eye issues, and early detection strategies to the nurses of the Hays County Independent School District. After receiving excellent feedback, he looks forward to continuing and expanding these collaborations to support families and educators throughout Hays County.

Personal Life

Outside of the office, Dr. Waqar enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the Texas Hill Country, and pursuing photography — a hobby that aligns with his professional appreciation for optics and visual clarity.
